Workshop Pedagogy
- Vista employs the workshop model of instruction as a primary pedagogy in its classrooms to differentiate teaching and learning to support students to grow and meet their own academic goals.
Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop
- Vista literacy teachers facilitate Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop using Lucy Calkins’ Units of Study out of Teachers College at Columbia University.
The Mini Lesson
- Through careful modeling of a teaching point, the mini lesson provides exposure to a new skill or strategy that students can use to build their knowledge within the unit.
Conferring
- After the mini lesson, the teacher will meet and confer with students individually or in small groups to assess and provide targeted individualized instruction.
