Workshop Model of Instruction

A gradual release pedagogical model that balances direct instruction with an empowering and engaging constructivist approach to teaching and learning.

Workshop Pedagogy

Vista employs the workshop model of instruction as a primary pedagogy in its classrooms to differentiate teaching and learning to support students to grow and meet their own academic goals.

Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop

Vista literacy teachers facilitate Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop using Lucy Calkins’ Units of Study out of Teachers College at Columbia University.

The Mini Lesson

Through careful modeling of a teaching point, the mini lesson provides exposure to a new skill or strategy that students can use to build their knowledge within the unit.

After the mini lesson, the teacher will meet and confer with students individually or in small groups to assess and provide targeted individualized instruction.
